Thrown Vessel with Slips, Underglaze and Glaze on Stoneware

This vessel is inspired by a photograph that I took of Wheal Owles Engine House at Botallack.

This series of vessels draw inspiration from different mining works around Cornwall. What was once a bustling industry employing thousands, has now been left to ruin due to the falling tin and copper prices and competition from overseas.

By distorting and deconstructing my vessels, I explore the relationship between form and imperfection, highlighting the contrast between carefully made and intentionally flawed. These distortions also mirror the conditions of the structures and objects that I observe.
